All of our teachers have had background checks performed and participate in ongoing childcare training. As a licensed child care provider, we are regularly and rigorously inspected by the Pinellas County Licensing Board and the Pinellas County Health Department.
Ms. Susie has known from the time she was young that she wanted to work with young children, she started babysitting when she was 11. She has been a preschool teacher for the last 26 years, a Director for the last 13 years, and the Owner/Director of her namesake, Ms. Susie’s Learning Center, for the last 10 years. Teaching has always been her first love and she likes to be a “hand’s on” Director. Every week she is in every classroom of her preschool. She personally knows all the children, and strives to nurture an open and positive relationship with their parents as well. A parent of a preschooler herself, she knows firsthand about the challenges of being a parent today.
Ms. Susie strives for a smoothly functioning preschool. The school is always stocked up on needed supplies and learning tools. Cleanliness is a top priority, and she employs excellent staff with minimum turn over. In addition, the school has great inspection records.
Ms. Kathy, our two year old teacher, started babysitting at age 11, and has been with us since Ms. Susie’s opened in 2002. She has been a preschool teacher since 1992, earned her CDA in 1996 and earned her Director’s credentials in 2003. Her two sons are grown and have successful careers of their own. She also has four grandchildren. She walks or cycles daily.
Ms. Kathy has a calm approach that emphasizes consistency and redirection. She gets to know each of her children individually, and learns what motivates each of them. Some children are more sensitive than others, and Ms. Kathy takes that into consideration when the need for discipline arises. For children who need a little work to catch up with their peers, Ms. Kathy will gently work with them until they are up to speed.
Forging her way into teaching at the tender age of 17, Ms. Amber took on cultural diversity education where she taught classes that promoted multicultural understanding. She is currently double-majoring in communication and sociology at the University of South Florida. She is also the Secretary of her school chapter of The Black Female Development Circle, an organization dedicated to the professional and character development of young African-American women. Amber will have her CDA by October 2013 and is a long-time Florida resident.
Certified to work with young children for the last thirteen years has afforded Ms. Chari the privilege and joy of doing what she finds most rewarding, working with young children. She has her CDA and is working toward her Associates in Arts in Early Childhood Development. She is an active member of National Association for the Education of Young Children, a national organization whose sole mission is ensuring high quality early childhood education. This is her second year of receiving hugs and kisses from her students at Ms. Susie’s.
